Mainz Cathedral

Mainz Cathedral is a pale-red sandstone building that has been restored many times in history due to war and fire, and when we went, the top of the church bell tower was thrown in the restoration. The interior of the church is also light red sandstone, without the exquisite ornateness of rococo, more solemn.

This is Mainz Cathedral, its academic name is St. Mardin's Cathedral, one of the largest and most gorgeous cathedrals in Germany, and the cathedral of the Catholic Diocese of Mainz. In fact, the interior decoration of the church has been interpreted as a Catholic church. I found several places in the market square next to the church, and I couldn't take the whole picture, but I could only walk to the far side of an alley behind the church, and I barely included several towers of the church together (the first photo).

Mainz Cathedral is the main church in Mainz, and the former archbishop is said to be extremely powerful, ranking first of the seven electors, and the king needs the archbishop here to be crowned. The church is red outside because it is built from red sandstone. The church was partially burned during the war and was restored during the church's millennium celebrations. It is one of the most gorgeous churches in Germany and contains a large collection of precious artwork.

Mainz Cathedral is a bishop's church, historically important and a landmark in Mainz, the capital of the German state of Leifax. Visits to the church are free.

From Frankfurt, take S8 to Mainz Railway Station, and then walk along the right side of the tram track outside the train station to the Cathedral Square. It feels very good to eat in the restaurant around the church. There is a market in the morning on the square.

Mainz Cathedral is one of the most gorgeous churches in Germany, and the cathedral of Archbishop Mainz, one of the seven general election emperors of the Roman Empire, is very majestic and magnificent. The sculptures of the many archbishops inside the church are beautiful, and there are often pipe organ performances here, which is worth visiting.

First vision: big. It feels bigger than the Cologne Cathedral (of course not as high). The feeling of seeing it is that it is a wide area, and the statues and structures in the church give people a heavy sense of history. Whether it is the main church, the annex building or the cloister garden, etc., it is very impressive. Worth a look.
