Mardi Gras is a season of revelry and romance, madness and music, parades and balls, street comedy costumes and grand private masquerades. Mardi Gras represents a time when all things grand and fancy come together in one all-encompassing blowout.
In the 12 days leading up to Mardi Gras, more than 60 parades, hundreds of private parties, balls and masquerades are held across the metro area each year. Fat Tuesday is a legal holiday in New Orleans when half the city dresses up to watch the other half parade! Then the party ends promptly at midnight to usher in the solemn Lenten season of Ash Wednesday.
