The Vessel in New York Reopens with Free Thursdays for Locals
The Vessel at Hudson Yards is undoubtedly one of New York's new iconic landmarks. Opened in March 2019, it quickly became a must-visit spot for New Yorkers, known for its futuristic design and endless visual appeal. Unfortunately, after a series of tragic incidents, it was forced to close indefinitely in January 2021.
Good news is here! The Vessel is reopening this week with tickets priced at $10 per person, and New York City residents can visit for free every Thursday.
About The Vessel: Located at the center of Hudson Yards, The Vessel was designed by British architect Thomas Heatherwick and cost approximately $200 million. This honeycomb structure stands 150 feet tall, widening as it rises, with 16 stories, 154 flights of stairs, 2,500 steps, and 80 viewing platforms for visitors to explore. Its unique spiral staircase design offers panoramic views of Manhattan from various angles, making it one of New York's hottest contemporary landmarks.
Reopening Details: After a three-year closure, The Vessel is reopening with several safety measures. The first two levels will be fully open, while higher levels will only reopen in areas with installed barriers, and the top level will remain closed to visitors. Tickets are priced at $10 per person, with free entry for New York City residents on Thursdays. Free Thursday tickets are currently booked until after November 14, so be sure to reserve your spot soon!
Other Hudson Yards Landmarks:
1. The Shed: Located next to The Vessel, The Shed is an arts center featuring painting, sculpture, classical music, theater, and dance, rivaling Lincoln Center as a new arts landmark. This November, The Shed will host a unique 'Luna Luna' art exhibition.
2. EDGE: The highest outdoor observation deck in the Western Hemisphere, standing 1,100 feet above ground, higher than the Empire State Building's observation deck.
