Mifflinburg played a major role in the history of the American Revolution, helping to slow the British to Philadelphia and allow Washington's troops to reach Forge Valley safely during the winter. The four of us who came to us were lucky to meet a guide in costumes that explained the history of the fortress for about an hour and a half. She later fired a small cannon at the demonstration. We were free to explore the fortress. It was clean and well maintained. We spent nearly two hours there. 1) the official hostel is open, 2) there are more reenactors, 3) there is a bigger fort museum. (They will pass in Philadelphia.)
