Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer, Portuguese: Cristo Redentor), also known as the Brazilian Christ, is a large Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ, located on the Christ Hill in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is the symbol of the city and one of the most famous monumental sculptures in the world. Completed in 1931, it is 38 meters high and weighs 1,145 tons. The distance between the fingers of the left and right hands reaches 23 meters. The statue of Jesus Christ is dressed in a robe, with his arms raised, and he looks down at the beautiful panoramic view of Rio de Janeiro at the foot of the mountain, foreshadowing the spirit of fraternity and approval of independence.
