What travelers say:

The Piazza Venezia is the largest square in the old city of Rome. The Piazza Venezia is rectangular, 130 meters long and 75 meters wide, and is the confluence of five roads, which has become the city's transportation center. The square is divided into three parts, the central part is the neoclassical architecture known as the "wedding cake" and "typewriter": the Vittoriano Italian unity memorial, also known as the Victor Emmanuel the Second Century Memorial, commemorating the unity of Italy and the Emmanuel who contributed to its unity Built by the second, the marble sculptures are magnificent, centering on a bronze horse riding statue of the founder of Italy, Emmanuel II, with two fountains attached. In the front of the building there is a monument to the unknown martyr, two soldiers standing on either side of the sacred fire. The military parade is held every year on the National Day of 6 month 2.

Additional Information

Introduction

Visit Vittorio Emanuele II monument in Rome, Italy and feel like a part of the history. To honor Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of unified Italy, architect Giuseppe Sacconi had designed this monument in the late 19th century. Climb up this huge white marble structure for free and get a view of Rome; however, you can pay a small fee to board the glass elevator and reach 'The Terrace of the Quadrigas' - the top of this monument. From there you can have a 360 degree birds-eye view of the city and enjoy the panorama of perfect synergy between ancient and modern Rome. Romans share a love-hate relationship with this landmark and compare the monument to a wedding cake or a Victorian typewriter.
