Tankavaara

Saariselkä is located in Northern Lapland in the northeastern corner of Finland, near the lakes of Lokka and Porttipahta. Tankavaara is the main local gold mining area, full of legend, known as the gold capital of Lapland. For a small fee, tourists can use gold panning tools and be guided by gold diggers. Every summer, tens of millions of tourists receive a small piece of pure gold as a souvenir of the gold panning at Tankavaara. Now, by a small pond near the museum, visitors can try their hand at panning for gold even in winter.
