This cathedral is amazing. It is already special from the outside but should go inside to see what is truly beautiful and absolutely stunning. Everything looks like a huge concrete structure and it only makes orderly changes on a few columns which is actually very subtle. The surroundings are natural light through the glass walls which feels like a special place. More interesting, it is built in a way that is different from the traditional cathedral. Oh, once you get inside, look back at the glass mosaics above the door (you may not notice from the outside).
Some people like the visual appearance of this cathedral, but others hate it! (We loved it!) The public aesthetic of the Cathedral of Ascension has changed since it was built in 1971! Originally viewed as a bit disgusting church, but in 2017 was rated the top 10 most beautiful churches in the US. We especially enjoyed the amazing stained glass, the use of concrete and the horseshoe roof made of hyperbolic parabolic surfaces in amazing shapes!
St. Mary’s Cathedral is not like what we generally think of as a church. It is a church with a full sense of design. It feels like a Catholic church. It is very special and beautiful. It attracts many people to visit and take pictures.
A pretty landmark building in Sf. I didn't go into the church part but there is a pretty large and spacious downstairs area for events.
Came here for a Sound Bath. Very cool! The space wasn't bad.
