based on 10 reviewsDonglin Temple, located at 150 Donglin Street, Zhujing Town, Jinshan District, Shanghai, was founded in 1308 during the first year of the Yuan Dynasty (1308) and was originally named Guanyin Hall. In 1313, the name was changed to Donglin Zen Temple. Over its 700-year history, it has suffered repeated destruction from wars, fires, and disrepair, and has been rebuilt several times. In 1987, the Shanghai Municipal People's Government designated the temple's remaining main hall as a municipal cultural relic protection site. In November 2002, with approval from the Jinshan District Religious Affairs Administration, it was officially registered as a Buddhist venue. In 2004, implementing the Party's religious policy, the district government allocated 20.5 mu (approximately 1.6 acres) of land in the former Jinshan County Government compound for the combined construction of Donglin Temple and Xilin Temple. In September 2007, the temple, recreating the grandeur of the Yuan Dynasty, opened to pilgrims and tourists. Today, Donglin Temple is a dazzling mountain wonder—the Buddha is a mountain, and upon the mountain lies a colossal Buddha. Standing 57 meters tall, the mountain is the Buddha, the Buddha is the mountain, the mountain and the Buddha are one, the Buddha and the mountain one. It achieves the perfect state of "man-made, yet seemingly created by nature."

This National Day holiday marked my third visit to Donglin Temple. Admission is free, but tickets are required to enter the Guanyin Pavilion and the Five Buddha Crown. If you're visiting for the first time, it's well worth purchasing tickets at both locations. From the Five Buddha Crown, you can overlook the entire Zhujing River. If you purchase tickets on the same day, you'll only receive the original price.

After the experience of the epidemic over the years, everyone likes to come to the temple to pray for peace and happiness for the whole family during the Spring Festival. The repeated angled roof of its main hall is known as a model of Shanghai stone carving. It also holds three Guinness World Records: including the tallest bronze door "Thousand Buddha Gate", the tallest indoor statue of Thousand-handed Guanyin, and the tallest cloisonné Shancai Boy Statue.
One of the most spectacular temples in Shanghai. Although it's far from the city centre, it's convenient to transfer. Line 1 is about ten minutes'walk from the bus station to the Lianjin Line or Lianzhu Line. From a distance, you can see the five Buddhist crowns on the top of the hill, which are really spectacular. In recent years, there are three bridges and three gates. When you enter the gate, you will see the cloisonne statue of the good-rich boy. The bell tower and Drum Tower built by brass on both sides are indeed magnificent and magnificent. Guinness's record of the highest bronze door and the highest indoor thousand-handed Avalokitesvara is truly spectacular. The Three Holy Halls, the Temple of Heavenly Kings, the Good Finance Pavilion and the Great Hall of Majesty were built on a large rockery building with great momentum. As for the top five Buddha crowns, you need to take the elevator to the seventh floor and walk to the eighth floor before you can see them. The left and right ears are Guan Gong and Wei Qian, the nose part is Guanyin and Lotus Block, beside which the allusions of Guanyin 32 are depicted, reflecting each other to form an abstract Buddha's head.
Donglin Temple (English name: DONGLIN MONASTERY)76 , is the birthplace of the Pure Land Sect of Buddhism (also known as the Lotus Sect), located at the western foot of Mount Lu in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, 16 kilometers north of Jiujiang City, 50 kilometers east of Guling Street, Mount Lu, and covers an area of 300 acres. Because it is located to the east of Xilin Temple, it is named Donglin Temple. It is a national key Buddhist temple in the Han area, a national famous Buddhist temple, and one of the three major international exchange temples in Jiangxi Province.
Most of the results for searching Donglin Temple on the Internet may point to Mount Lushan in Jiangxi. I accidentally saw this Donglin Temple in Jinshan District on the Internet, and took advantage of the National Day holiday to visit it. This Zen temple was founded by monk Miaoyin in the first year of the Yuan Dynasty (1308). In the second year of Huangqing (1313), the monk Yuanzhilai of Xilin Temple changed the name to Donglin Zen Temple. It was destroyed by war in the first year of Zhizheng (1341). In the early Ming Dynasty, the monk Zhiyi rebuilt it, but it collapsed due to disrepair. The current Donglin Temple was rebuilt in 2007. 🌟Highlights: Mountain wonders Walking into the towering Donglin Temple is a dazzling mountain wonder, the mountain is like a Buddha, and the Buddha is like a mountain. This mountain is 57 meters high, equivalent to a 19-story residential building. As long as you walk into the Zhujing Town area, you can see this mountain Buddha from any angle. The mountain is like the Buddha, wearing a crown and a cassock, lying or standing, and under the sunlight, the Buddha's charm and spiritual light flicker slowly. Guanyin Pavilion The Thousand-armed and Thousand-eyed Guanyin Bodhisattva in the Guanyin Pavilion is 33 meters high, symbolizing the 33 bodies of Guanyin. Its height broke the Guinness World Record of 22.58 meters of Guanyin in Pudong Temple, Chengde, and also broke the limit of 18 meters of the full height of the Buddha in Lama Temple, Beijing. It is the first indoor Thousand-armed Guanyin Bodhisattva in Southeast Asia. The main entrance of Guanyin Pavilion is the Thousand Buddha Gate, with 999 Bodhisattvas engraved on the door, which is very shocking. You must stand under it to feel it. This is a temple with a lot of incense. The incense ticket is only 10 yuan, and the full ticket is 30 yuan. It is strongly recommended to buy a full ticket, especially Guanyin Pavilion is absolutely not to be missed.
