Closure notice
The Museum of Art Pudong (MAP), invested in, constructed, and operated by Lujiazui Group, was designed by renowned French architect and Pritzker Prize winner Jean Nouvel. Construction began on September 26, 2017, and the museum officially opened to the public in July 2021. Located in the core area of Lujiazui Riverside, this 6-story, 30m-tall modern building stretches westward to the Huangpu River and connects eastward to the Oriental Pearl Tower via a garden plaza, creating a 30,000-square-meter art museum complex.
The Museum of Art Pudong occupies a 13,000-square-meter site with nearly 40,000 square meters of total floor space. It features 13 exhibition halls offering over 10,000 square meters of display area. The building's facade and flooring use Shandong White Granite, while its interior spaces draw inspiration from Malevich's classic geometric lines.
As a state-owned public art museum, the Museum of Art Pudong is a key initiative in building Shanghai's cultural brand. It carries the cultural mission and social responsibilities entrusted by both municipal and district governments. Focusing on international art exhibitions and exchanges while also showcasing domestic art, the venue highlights four core functions: exhibitions, art education, cultural creativity, and international exchanges. It is committed to becoming a new landmark for international cultural venues in Shanghai and an important platform for global cultural and artistic exchanges.
The Museum of Art Pudong collaborates with world-leading art institutions and artists to offer visitors the precious experience of appreciating global art treasures without leaving Shanghai, striving to become "the premier destination in China for internationally renowned art exhibitions and a must-visit for domestic artists." The museum has invited Tate Britain as its operational consultant and opening exhibition partner, signing a five-year strategic cooperation agreement to present one blockbuster exhibition annually.
