As ancient breath penetrates spacetime: the philosophy of life lesson at the Shanghai Natural Museum stands in the greenery of Jing'an Sculpture Park, a silver ark designed by Perkinsville Architects is swallowing the city's hustle and bustle. The curvy exterior wall of the Shanghai Museum of Nature is like solidified liquid metal, reflecting the changing skyline of clouds. This scientific temple, which houses 460,000 pieces of collection, interprets the flowing nature of life in architectural language. When visitors enter the pavilion through the "cell wall", they open a dialogue that spans 4.6 billion years. First, the "Evolutionary Way" of deconstructing the spiral of the life theater in time and space The main exhibition line subverts the linear narrative of traditional museums. The Tyrannosaurus fossils slowly turn their heads in mechanical transmissions, and the Sinian sea lilies and Cambrian trilobites form geological annual rings in vertical space. The curator team transformed the yellowed pages of Darwin manuscripts into holographic projections. Let evolution be upgraded from flat literature to three-dimensional theater. The most shocking thing is the "Cambrian Outbreak" immersion theater. The audience stands on the mobile platform and is wrapped in images across the sea 2 billion years ago. The compound eyes of the strange shrimps flash in the dark and blue. As if you can touch the breath of ancient life. Second, the cognitive revolution empowered by technology is in the "Long River of Life" exhibition area, and augmented reality technology has allowed the rebirth of extinct species. Scanning the skeleton of the Dodo, the mobile phone screen immediately shows the scene of its pacing in the Mauritius jungle. The texture of the feathers is clearly visible in daylight. This fusion of virtual and real display deconstructs the cold sensation of the specimen as a "death symbol". What is even more amazing is the transparent window of the molecular biology lab where visitors can see firsthand how DNA sequencers extract genetics from butterfly wings. The password, the scientific discovery process went from behind the scenes to the front desk, dispelling the mystery of scientific research. 3. The "Extinction of the Dragon" installation art in the mirror fable on the top floor of the ecological crisis is very visual: 888 acrylic cubes are suspended in the air, Each cube holds a species name that has been extinct for nearly a hundred years. When the audience is close, the sensors trigger the audio story of the extinction. This spatial narrative transforms ecological data into emotional shocks, next to the stereo projection of the Yangtze River egrets, The air pollution index, displayed in real time, is constantly beating, forcing viewers to face the trauma of the Anthropocene. When the sunset casts a fine light on the skeleton of Tyrannosaurus rex through the glass dome on the top of the building, the museum reveals a spiritual dimension that transcends the popular science venue. It is not only an archive of natural history, but also apocalypse for the future. Those living passwords that travel through time and space reconstruct the human cognition in the resonance of technology and art. When leaving the development hall, tourists take away not only knowledge, And a deeper awareness of the community of life perhaps the most revolutionary educational value of contemporary museums.

The Shanghai Natural History Museum is worth visiting twice or three times. It is like walking into a static zoo. The teacher's explanation is very interesting and vivid, and the children listen very carefully. The teacher asked questions while explaining, and the interactive method is particularly good. The children have a deep memory of the knowledge points.
📍The tour route of Shanghai Natural History Museum is well designed. For the first time, you can go sightseeing from top to bottom by floor, or you can go sightseeing from bottom to top in reverse to avoid the peak of crowds (it is actually hard to avoid on weekends [sigh R]). For example, there are many animal specimens or models on the 1st floor, B1 and B2, which are all worth visiting~ 🧩2F: Mystery of Origin (cosmic astronomy and origin of the earth, which can be visited quickly) 🧩1F: Long River of Life (animal specimens and fossil bones, the Internet celebrity lion is here, which can be visited 🌟) 🧩B1: The Way of Evolution/The Road to the Future (prehistoric life and fossil bones, which can be visited 🌟) 🧩B2m: Shanghai Story (About the natural situation of Shanghai, which can be visited quickly) 🧩B2: Exploring the Earth/Survival Wisdom/The Bond between Man and Land/Ecological Vientiane/Colorful Life (The butterfly exhibition is in Colorful Life, which can be visited 🌟)
Great place. You can learn a lot of history and culture from this great museum. There is 5 stories exhibiting different historical artifacts. There is also a 4D movie theatre and more shows at the different levels which needs booking in advance. A must visit place when visiting shanghai unless you don’t like museums
This huge science museum makes surely great impression to us: plenty of exhibitions, informative, well presented with different death animals aand bones from shells, mammals, insects, etc. The entrance fee (30 rmb for adult, children under 6 free) is affordable. Better come early in the morning on weekdays to avoid crowd. Easy to reach by metro, but there is not much eateries nearby.

Almost everything is written in both Chinese and English so there's no problem in visiting without a local friend. There are also a few stores within the museum.
A great place especially if you love dinosaurs. Very well maintained, neat and foreigner-friendly with a very helpful staff. A lot of species were titled with their biological names in English and not the common name
