I visited the Huanglong pools in early May. It was the day after the national holiday so there were not that many people. Key points: · took the train from Chengdu to Huanglongjiuzaigou, approx 2.5h · At the train station, there are plenty of taxis waiting, and there is also a bus. I chose to book a shuttle from the train station via Trip.com because 1) it was more comfortable (modern van) and 2) It was convenientas they waited for me at Huanglongand later on drove to Jiuzhaigou. This way I could keep the suitcase in the van · I bought the ticket for Huanglong directly at the entrance, it includes the cable car up. I thought I would walk all the way up but I'm glad I didn't , it's VERY high up and steep!! · At the top of cable car there is a minibus that takes you closer to the scenic spot. You have to pay extra but it saves 30 mins of walking. Optional. · The pools in May are still mostly dry... a few were full and beautiful , but I wish I had come later in the year. If you are planning to come October-March, I recommend skipping it. · On the way down, you can walk down (lots of steps but you see more pools), or choose to take cable car again.
