Wenshu Mountain Grottoes

Wenshushan Grottoes are the remains of early Buddhism in China, and are precious materials of Buddhist art during the 16th National Period. They have extremely high historical, scientific and artistic value. The murals have the layout characteristics of early cave murals in Hexi area. Some mural content can make up for the shortcomings of Mogao Grottoes. Some are the continuation and development of Dunhuang art. The existing murals of Xixia period are an important heritage of Xixia Buddhism and its painting art.

In the Horseshoe Temple scenic area, the Horseshoe Temple scenic area is quite large, and there are different grottoes inside. Some grottoes are 20 or 30 kilometers away. There is a grotto especially. You need a team appointment to enter.

The Wenshu Mountain Grottoes Group, the ancient grottoes group at the foot of the main peak of Qilian Mountain, is said to be sacred here. The Grotto Temple is built on the mountain. For thousands of years, the religions of almost all Chinese factions such as Tibetan Buddhism, Han Chinese Buddhism, Taoism and other religions have converged here. Buddhist art and early murals in the grottoes can be comparable to Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, and the folk have the saying of "see Wenshu first, and then Dunhuang". The Wenshushan Grottoes Group was first cut in the Northern Dynasty, and is a remnant of early Buddhism in China. It is located within the Liangzhou model grottoes, especially the murals in the Qianfo Cave and Wanfo Cave Caves have the layout characteristics of the early cave murals in Hexi. Some mural content can make up for the shortcomings of Mogao Grottoes. Some are the continuation and development of Dunhuang art. Professor Su Bai's "Liangzhou model" said that the Liangzhou model can be divided into two stages: early reference to the remnants of Tianti Mountain, Jiuquan and other places unearthed Wuliang stone tower and the first stage of Qianling statue; Late stage can refer to Sunan Jinta Temple, Jiuquan Wenshu Mountain Qianshan Qianshan Buddha Cave and Qianling Phase 2 statue. Among the more complete murals in existence, the huge painting "Maitreya Shangsheng Jingchang" painted by the right wall of Wanfo Cave in the front of Wenshu Mountain (East Wall) Xixia can be said to be a gem in the grotto group, and it is also one of the must-see treasures of Wenshu Mountain by experts and scholars. It is under Zhang Shuguan's control, but it is very close to Jiayuguan. I took a train from Dunhuang to Jiayuguan South Station and got off, and then took a taxi. Tickets are 120, so expensive. Mogao Grottoes are only 190 now.
