Tips for visiting the Taipei 101 Observatory
based on 2643 reviewsIt’s a great building! Not much more to do around but it’s a definite must do in Taipei! I booked it and showed my QR code to collect tickets… couldn’t have been easier!

Taipei 101 is located in the prime area of Taipei. This project was jointly planned by Taipei Financial Center Corporation, a consortium of 14 enterprises, along with a professional team, and meticulously designed by master architect C.Y. Lee. Transcending conventional single-volume design concepts, it incorporates the auspicious number "8" (homophone for "prosperity" in Chinese) as its design module. Every eight floors form a structural unit, interconnected and stacked to create the whole. The rhythmic aesthetic of its exterior establishes a groundbreaking new style for international skyscrapers.

The building's design resembles resilient bamboo rising steadily, symbolizing the enduring vitality of traditional architecture.

Infinite Sky: Through the special mirror principle and the layered reflections between the skylight and floor, visitors can experience the visual illusion of touching the sky and infinite extension, as if stepping into a kaleidoscopic world. Friendly reminder: Female visitors wearing skirts should be mindful of the mirror floor reflections.

Wind Damper Ball: The full official name of Taipei 101's wind damper ball is Tuned Mass Damper (TMD), a passive damping system custom-designed for this building's needs. Positioned at the central area between floors 87–92, its primary purpose is to reduce the building's sway during strong winds, minimizing discomfort for occupants. Unlike traditional hidden damping systems, Taipei 101's Wind Damper Ball uniquely combines functionality with aesthetics, allowing visitors to observe the entire damping system in operation from the observation deck.

Ultra-high-speed elevators: The Taipei 101 Observatory is equipped with two ultra-high-speed elevators that can ascend at a speed of 1,010 meters per minute. It takes only 37 seconds to travel from the 5th floor to the 89th-floor observatory. These elevators are also equipped with constant pressure devices inside the cabins, dampers, and high-temperature-resistant ceramic braking systems, making them intelligent high-speed elevators that integrate cutting-edge technology.

The 89th floor indoor observation deck offers a dreamy immersive experience with dazzling night lights reflecting through glass installations. Not only can you overlook the million-dollar night view, but there are also unique dedicated photo windows to capture every moment as a classic shot!

Secret garden in the clouds: A stunning photo spot where romantic scenes meet high-altitude city views, creating a beautiful picture-perfect moment

The multi-section design naturally mitigates wind field effects caused by high-rise buildings on ground level. Through architectural design that separates green planting areas, it ensures pedestrian safety and comfort.

Rainbow Neon Zone: Capture stunning night views from above with dazzling neon lights - a must-visit photo spot you can't miss!

Getting the ticket was really easy. At the Taipei 101 ticket counter, there’s a separate line for online bookings and on-site tickets. Just show your QR code, and the staff will hand you the ticket. The whole process took less than 2 minutes, super fast and hassle-free!
I visited Taipei 101 during my solo trip and absolutely loved it! The view from the observatory was amazing — you can see the whole city from above. Especially when the sun goes down..such a pretty skyline and sky..The building itself is beautiful, and there are plenty of shops and restaurants inside,a bit leicey though. It’s very organized and easy to get around even when you’re alone. Definitely a must-visit in Taipei!”
There were still quite a lot of people at Taipei 101 Observation Tower. We had to queue up when we exchanged tickets, but it was pretty quick and didn't take long. When exchanging tickets, the staff will ask you when you want to go upstairs. You just need to go to the upstairs to queue up during that time period. You don't have to queue there all the time. There seems to be a limit on the number of people in each time period.
Once the tallest building in the world, you can overlook the whole of Taipei from the observation deck. It only takes 37 seconds to take the elevator to the 89th floor, which is the fastest in the world. The queues at the manual ticket window are sometimes very long. There is an automatic ticket machine on its left, where you can pay with Alipay. You can also rent interpreters in all major languages at the service desk. As a landmark building in Taipei, it still attracts many tourists.
The entrance to the indoor observation deck on the 89th floor is on the 5th floor (there are ticket offices, service counters, souvenir shops, free lockers and elevator entrances on the 5th floor). The ticket to the world's highest outdoor observation deck on the 91st floor is NT$100. You must first purchase the indoor observation deck ticket on the 89th floor, and then purchase it at the west entrance on the 89th floor.
Taipei 101 is a famous building in Taipei, located in the Xinyi District with convenient transportation. There are food courts, restaurants, supermarkets, where you can enjoy delicious food, and boutiques where you can buy various gifts. The observation deck on the 89th floor and above can be visited by ticket purchase, and it is a good spot to overlook Taipei from afar...
We chose to go to Taipei 101 at night because it offers beautiful views both indoors and outdoors, and you can also watch a video of how 101 was built. The wind damper is another very interesting thing that those who like taking pictures should not miss when visiting.
