Standing on the shore of Lake Tekapo, I was shocked by the deep blue, as if the earth cracked a gap, the sky was poured into the lake. The lake surrounded by snowy mountains was calm as a mirror, reflecting the changes of clouds and light. When participating in Earth & Sky stargazing, the Milky Way poured down, the stars were within reach, and the guide's explanation brought the mystery of the universe close to you. Walking along the lake, the white figure of the Shepherd's Church blended with nature, and the tranquility was divine. This is not only a feast of vision, but also a destination for the soul, every moment makes people intoxicated with the pure and tranquil nature.
After descending Mount Eden, we flew from the North Island of New Zealand to Christchurch on the South Island. It took a 3-hour drive to Lake Dekapo and the town of Tekapo, located between Christchurch and Queenstown. It is known as the sapphire of the South Island. The western side of the lake is the Southern Alps. When the snow on the mountain melts, it washes down minerals and accumulates at the bottom of the lake. Under the sunlight, it forms a dreamy milky blue color.
Lake Tekapo looked stunning and gorgeous. it looked clear and clean and has nice view under the sun reflection. picture perfect.
During the three days at Lake Tekapo, I saw the most beautiful natural scenery in the entire South Island: 1. The purple sea of lupine flowers; 2. The pink and blue Lake Tekapo, whether it is cloudy, rainy or sunny, the lake water is always a milky blue; 3. The brilliant Milky Way at night🌌; 4. The rainbow; 5. The gorgeous morning and evening glow; 6. The pink snow-capped mountains at dusk🏔️
This is a dreamlike scene! There's no time to talk here! Just enjoy it and shoot it! I'm afraid the beauty will disappear in a moment... Every moment is beautiful! We live here for a while! Come out at night and see the stars all over the sky! It's a pity that I didn't have the equipment for shooting... But the beautiful night sky has stayed deep in my heart... It's worth playing again....
Lake Tekapo: It is the second largest lake in the northern part of the Mackenzie Basin flowing from north to south. It is fed by the Godley River, 700 meters above sea level, and has a drainage area of 83 square kilometers. It is located between the famous tourist cities of Christchurch and Queenstown on the South Island of New Zealand, in the heart of the Mount Cook Basin and MacKenzie. The beautiful and charming Lake Tekapo is surrounded by trees shrouded in golden sunshine and snow-capped, endless snow-capped mountains. In the right season, Lake Tekapo and the smaller nearby Lake Alexandrina, Lake McGregor and Lake Conway are all good places to fish for brown trout and rainbow trout. In winter, the town of Tekapo will welcome batches of skiing guests.
New Zealand has many lakes, most of which are surrounded by mountains, with winding coastlines, clear water and pleasant scenery. It is an excellent tourist destination. Lake Tekapo, located in the middle of Mount Cook National Park, has become a must-visit attraction for tourism in New Zealand's South Island with its three major features. First, the iconic landscape is famous all over the world. The Good Shepherd Church and the sheepdog sculpture on the south bank of Lake Tekapo are not only the iconic landscape of Lake Tekapo, but also the business card of New Zealand tourism. The dark gray and elegant church, the dark and strong sculptures and the gorgeous scenery complement each other and are unforgettable. Second, the lake and mountains are beautiful. The sparkling milky blue lake, the peaks covered with snow all year round, the colorful lupine on the lakeshore, and the dark gray stone beach by the lake are like beautiful oil paintings, making people feel like entering a fairyland and lingering. Third, the dreamy starry sky is desirable. The Tekapo area is a "Dark Sky Reserve" named by UNESCO and is the best place to watch the starry sky in the southern hemisphere. The brilliant Milky Way and the twinkling stars attract many fans who come from far and wide to enjoy the wonders of the starry sky.
We stayed in Tekapo for one night. When we woke up in the morning, we saw the sparkling Lake Tekapo, which was shining green under the sunlight. It was particularly charming. Tekapo is a famous stargazing spot and has been designated as a dark sky reserve by UNESCO. We were very lucky that night and saw the Milky Way. We really saw it when we looked up. Ordinary cameras cannot capture the effect of what the naked eye sees. We can only steal pictures from the Internet. It was really shocking to see it with our own eyes.
