Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal flows through the end of Xizha, passing by the ancient town. Both sides of this section of the Grand Canal are very wide and the scenery there is not stunning but has a long history. The ancient pagoda in Xizha's Bailian Temple is an observation deck for tourists to overlook the canal's landscape. Most climb up the pagoda to enjoy scenery. The artificial river built in the Sui Dynasty still plays its role in water transportation and the river sometimes sees ships carrying goods pass through slowly to remind people of its prosperity 1,000 years ago.
