The town of Vevey on Lake Geneva is home to a giant fork.
This time, I truly experienced the vastness and beauty of Lake Geneva.
After two days, I was still wandering around the lake, seeking beauty in every spot.
Lake Geneva is located in the southwestern part of Switzerland. It is pronounced "Lake Leman" in English or German, but it is more widely known as "Lake Geneva". Lake Geneva is the largest lake in the Alps, with the northern part belonging to Switzerland (slightly larger) and the southern part belonging to France.
There are many famous towns along the lake in Switzerland.
Lausanne, the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee, is a must-visit for sports fans like me. I also had to climb up to take a few photos of the special stained glass windows of Lausanne Cathedral.
Vevey, a town that is not very famous in the travel industry, but has a lot of history: Chillon Castle, Nestlé headquarters, Charlie Chaplin, Audrey Hepburn, and a giant fork in Lake Geneva.
Vevey is not only a famous resort and tourist destination, but also a popular retirement destination for celebrities.
Charlie Chaplin, Audrey Hepburn (actor), Ernest Hemingway (writer), Gustave Courbet and Bartis (painters). These great artists in history have all stayed in the Lake Geneva area and found peace of mind. The peace of mind allowed the artists to return to their true selves, inspired them, and brought out their greatest creativity.
Vevey's food processing industry is also famous. In fact, it has a very sweet nickname: Chocolate City.
Walking along the lakeside, you will definitely see the giant fork, standing straight in the lake, shining beautifully against the blue sky and water.
There are also a few white chairs near the fork (see below). Walk over and sit down, and you will instantly have the most beautiful dining view by Lake Geneva. It would be even better if there were more tables.
The 8-meter-high giant fork created by a Swiss artist seems a bit abrupt, but it feels very harmonious with Lake Geneva. It's a strange, indescribable harmony. The fork is located opposite the Chaplin statue by the lake, which is very interesting. It is said that the inspiration came from Chaplin's play: In "The Gold Rush", a gold digger eats a worn-out shoe with a knife and fork when he is hungry.
This refreshing lakeside town is actually the headquarters of the world's largest food manufacturer, Nestlé. It is also rumored that the fork standing in the middle of the lake was originally placed temporarily for a Nestlé event, but it accidentally became a landmark. People later called it "God's Fork".
I chose a nearby restaurant facing the lake and blooming with flowers, and ordered a set meal of Lake Geneva fish. With a large glass of beer in my right hand and a fork in my left hand, I was ready to eat.
——With a "big fork" in hand, I have the world!
Fork Lake📍 Must-visit attractions when coming to Vevey Choose a location you like💺 Sit down and stare at the beautiful scenery in front of you in a daze Feel the sun and sea🌞🌊 Very comfortable😍🌅
Taking the train from Geneva to Montreux, you will pass a small town called "Vevey" on the way. Because when I was making the strategy before, I had my eyes on the big fork here, so I had to come here to check in anyway. Vevey is a small town in western Switzerland, between Lausanne and Montreux. There are vast vineyards around the town. It began to develop and prosper as a wine center in the Middle Ages. The world-famous Nestle company is headquartered here, and the company's iconic big fork stands on the shore of Lake Geneva in Vevey. So after getting off the Vevey train station, I went straight to the big fork through Google Maps navigation. The town is very small, so it only takes about ten minutes to walk there. This is a quiet town. There are some locals walking on the lakeside trail, or sitting on chairs to chat about life and bask in the sun. It feels that this place is completely different from the high-paced life in Switzerland. Maybe this is an unpopular attraction. I almost don't see Chinese people here, but in order to rush to Montreux to see the castle, I hurried to the big fork to take a few check-in photos. Next to the big fork is the statue of Charlie Chaplin, the comedy master Charlie Chaplin lived here for 25 years and died here, so it is understandable to set up a statue here as a memorial, so I inevitably took a group photo to check in, after all, I'm here. Take the train to Montreux again to see the Chillon Castle, which is built on a protruding rock by Lake Geneva, a bit like a peninsula. The most famous thing about this place is the poem "The Prisoner of Chillon" written by Byron. The famous poet and the famous poem made this castle a business card for Montreux. However, it is charged to visit the castle. Due to time constraints and our lack of interest in the various historical chapters in the castle, we took a few standard tourist photos by the lake and left happily after visiting here, after all, we still have to continue to Interlaken. Overall, the Chillon Castle is worth seeing, but not worth seeing in depth. I personally think that Interlaken is still the most essential place in Switzerland, so you can take a look at the footprints I left in Interlaken.
This big fork standing in the water of Lake Geneva is called the Big Fork. There is nothing special worth visiting, but you must take a photo as a souvenir. It is indeed a very interesting design.
The eye-catching fork stands in the lake of Geneva. It was designed by designer Jean Pierre Zaugg in 19950 to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Food Festival. The fork is made of stainless steel and is eight meters high. It shines golden in the sunset, forming a sharp contrast with the snow-capped mountains. This has also become one of Vevey's eye-catching symbols.
Among the many towns on Lake Geneva, I prefer Vevey to Montreux, which is too famous and has too many tourists. The lake view here is more open and there are relatively fewer tourists. The Big Fork is one of the iconic landscapes here, just opposite the Charlie Chaplin statue, standing by the river and looks very interesting.
This attraction is really just a visit. Because it is the representative of Vevey, you must take a photo. The big fork is in Lake Geneva in front of the Food Museum. If you have time, you can go to the Food Museum to have a look. Because the scenery by Lake Geneva is so beautiful, the Swiss simply installed swivel chairs on the reefs by the lake, so that everyone can sit by the lake and slowly enjoy the scenery. Occasionally, a few swans will swim past in front of you as if nothing happened. It's so leisurely. I happened to meet a couple taking photos. You can imagine how popular this attraction is.
The waves on Lake Geneva are 2 meters high. I thought I was at the seaside. A quiet and beautiful town. It's a good place to relax when you have nothing to do.
