This former residence is the ancestral home of the revolutionary writer Mao Dun (Shen Yanbing). It is located at the intersection of Guanqian Street and Xinhua Road in Wuzhen. It is a traditional timber-framed residential building commonly seen in Jiangsu and Zhejiang. The residence was built in the mid-nineteenth century and is a Qing Dynasty Jiangnan folk house. There are two houses, front and back. The three rooms in the front main house are Mao Dun’s bedroom, study and reception room. There is a small garden on the side of the house with various green plants. The back building is a two-story structure that serves as a kitchen, dining hall, and living room.
