based on 281 reviewsIt was my first time watching such a performance, and I loved it!!! The plot was familiar to me because I had learned it when I was in school, and the actors' performances were also wonderful! There were some "breaking the fourth wall" interactions from time to time, I loved it! I took a photo with the leading actors after the performance hehehe (What made me a little distracted was that I felt that the actor who played Rama was too thin🤣 He was too thin and weak, and it seemed that he couldn't protect Sita, and it was not easy for him to perform that kind of decent momentum (Dan still acted well!))

The show was excellent. The 90 minutes flew by quickly. The location's proximity to Malioboro was also a plus, offering easy access. Highly recommended, and we hope to see you again sometime soon.
This dance show, based on the ancient Indonesian epic poem "Ramayana," was a spectacular performance that allowed me to experience Javanese culture. The dazzling costumes, rhythmic gamelan music, and passionate dancing were a spectacular sight. The story revolves around themes of good and evil, love and courage, and even if you don't understand the language, you'll be drawn into the powerful story.
Yogyakarta in Indonesia is located in the central part of Java Island, close to the Indian Ocean. Watching the "Ramayana" performance in Yogyakarta is a way to understand the local ancient culture. Ramayana tells a very beautiful love story, combined with the display of national costumes, which is very good.
The ticket price of around 100 is for foreigners. Locals only need about half of that. I couldn't understand the performance at all, but I was familiar with the story. Before the show started, the storyline was sent to you, and there was a Chinese version, but I felt that I was discriminated against because I was Chinese. White people were warmly received by the locals throughout the show, but no one paid any attention to me. There was a small earthquake during the show, but it didn't affect the viewing.
It's not a must-see. The actors are very dedicated and perform hard. At the end, you can go on stage to take photos with the actors. But the stage setting is relatively simple and there is no scene change. The main reason is the cultural gap. Indian dance, including the music, is quite different from traditional Chinese opera, so the beauty and resonance are different. If you really want to go, I suggest you watch the Ramayana first.
It's worth going. The dances and performances there are all very nice. I really recommend everyone to go there. It's free when there are fewer people there.
