Laojun Mountain

Laojun Mountain is located in Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, Lijiang. Its main peak, Laojun Mountain, stands at an altitude of 4,515 m. It is named after the legend that Taishang Laojun once practiced alchemy here. The park features many Danxia landforms, as well as flower seas, rare animals, and more. If you stay in Liming Village within the scenic area, you can wake up early to watch the marvelous "three sunrises and three sunsets" view.

Laojun Mountain covers a vast area and is divided into four zones: Liming Alpine Danxia Area, Ninety-Nine Dragon Pools Area, Geladan Alpine Meadow Area, and Jinsichang Area. The best season to visit Laojun Mountain is from May to June each year, when the rhododendrons are in full bloom, creating a sea of flowers across the entire mountain area.

The Liming Alpine Danxia Area is mainly located within the Liming Lisu Ethnic Township and includes four villages: Liming, Liguang, Meile, and Duimei. Covering a total area of 250 sq km, it is one of the largest and most well-developed Danxia landforms in China. The most famous and widely known attraction in the area is Qiangui Mountain. Due to the cracking of the red sandstone surface, weathering and erosion have formed fissured protrusions that look like a group of turtles slowly climbing the hillside—a truly unique sight. To protect the geology of Qiangui Mountain, you must be barefoot when climbing it. Walking along the mountain trails, besides Qiangui Mountain, other views such as the Sleeping Buddha, Five-Finger Mountain, Natural Buddha, and Laojun's Alchemy Furnace are also lifelike and amazing. If you have average stamina, you can take an electric cart from the scenic area entrance to enjoy the canyon scenery, then take the cable car to the summit for a visit.

If you want to fully experience this magnificent Danxia landscape, we recommend staying in Liming Village. Both sides of Hongshi Street in the village are lined with inns and restaurants, ranging from youth hostels popular with backpackers to folk inns and the Chenghaibao'er Holiday Inn Yongsheng County, so you can choose what suits you best. This way, when the weather is good, you can wake up early to watch the marvelous "three sunrises and three sunsets in one day" spectacle.
