Introduction
Montjuïc Castle is a large fortress located on the top of Montjuïc hill in Barcelona, Spain. The castle was built in the seventeenth century to hold political prisoners, a role which continued until the late twentieth century. In the Spanish imagination the castle is a symbol of oppression and evil, an image stemming from its use as a torture and execution center during the Spanish Civil War. At present, the building houses a military museum, but plans exist to transform it into a museum celebrating international peace.

This place is amazing. So much history can be felt when inside. We stayed for a quite a while enjoying views of the city, and of the ocean.
I feel like Montjuic is one of the less appreciated places in Barcelona though it is one of the oldest and has quite an interesting history. It also is good exercise if you walk up from the city and has a nice view.
On the top of Montjuic, this castle offers some stunning views of Barcelona. And the fortress itself dates back to 1640. A great place to learn a bit more about the history of the area.
Very near the apartment, Montjuïc hill is a nice place to walk. Plenty of parks, the MNAC museum, the Spanish Village, Caixaforum....too many things to see there!
