The foundations of the castle, which took several years, cover more than 30,000 square feet. The tall façade was designed by the German architect Heinrich Schlegelholt in the early 15th century, and the surrounding five towers are commonly known as the English Tower, Italian Tower, German Tower, French Tower and Gasser Tower. Bodrum Castle is nearly square overall, measuring 590 x 606 feet, and its high point is 155.8 feet (47.5 meters) above sea level. The entrance to the castle is located in the northwest corner, and the interior of the castle can be accessed through 7 gates. The north and west are double-layered structures. On the sloping roof on the west side, there is a cannon bunker. At present, the castle includes five surrounding towers, all of which have been transformed into the Bodrum Underwater Archaeological Museum.
