Located at the south end of Busan, Haeundae Beach is one of the most famous and popular strips of coastline in Korea. All 12 kilometers of Haeundae Beach are thronged with sunbathing bodies and colorful umbrellas all summer long. These pleasure-seekers are after the beautiful sun, sea and sand, as well as the diverse summer events, including the week-long Busan Sea Festival that takes place each August. Fishing enthusiasts also enjoy the beach, particularly around Dongbaek Island at Haeundae's southern end. Easily accessible from downtown Busan, the beach also hosts a number of wintertime activities. On January 1, people gather there to watch the first sunrise of the new year, and the Polar Bear Club meets there around the same time to take a dip in the frigid waters.
