Despite the wealth of the city and its residents, Calgary sadly has few museums or art galleries. The Glenbow Museum is the one worthwhile venue to visit as it is four or five museums rolled into one. It covers natural history, regional history, art exhibitions of both contemporary and historical works, and temporary exhibitions. The art and artifacts are not just about western Canada. Currently, the exhibitions include one on the culture of Western Africa and another on the history of warriors across the globe. Some are interactive or multimedia. The museum also hosts special events such as musical performances and film screenings.
The Glenbow is a great place to start your Calgary history lesson. Great exhibits on the birth of the city and the folks that were here first.
