Mekong River Delta Tour — MUST HAVE in Vietnam
There are many different options of this tour, I chose one that includes the visiting of local villages, markets, and temples.
It's interesting to see how the life of locals revolves around the river. There are stilt houses along the Mekong River Delta and some floating markets.
The food options are also quite exciting in this region. they use fresh vegetables, seafood, and unique herbs and spices.
The biodiversity is also great, I was surprised to see huge butterflies and big companies of monkeys wandering around.

Mekong Delta Tour
As part of a group trip I went on, we visited the Mekong River. The tour was in 2 parts, we took a cruise to one island to see the coconut candy making process. Then took the boat back to Unicorn Island where we had fresh fruit, honey tea and traditional music. From Unicorn Island, we had the local ladies row us along the Mekong River back to our main boat. This was really enjoyable as it made the trip feel fuller.
I booked this trip with trip.com and had Jen as a tour guide, she was amazing and accommodating.

Mekong River
A 3 hours drive out of Ho Chih Minh city you can see the third largest River in Asia and twelfth in the world. This is the only transportation for tourists to go across the villages which has some stalls selling local souvenirs and snacks. There are some places of interests which is the bee harvesting area, candy making, horse carriage ride and snakes photo shoots. The restaurant which the tour took us has a local tribe playing some music

Cai Rang Floating Market Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Mar)
CAI RANG FLOATING MARKET - Can Tho
Getting There - If you want to ride a motorbike, find your way to National Highway 1A, then follow the direction of My Thuan Bridge, turn left in the direction to Can Tho. There are many signposts on the road, so you are not afraid to get lost. Riding a motorbike will take you about 4 hours by car.
Attractions - Cai Rang Floating Market meets quite early from about 4, 5 am, the boats have started to arrive at the market, so you need to go a little early, calculate enough time to be able to go to the market at the busiest time.
There are many reasons why I want to visit Cai Rang floating market again after my missed visit last year. First, the bustling scenes here made me nostalgic.
Next are the boats full of goods. Sounds weird right? Like this, normally you can only see people gathering in markets and selling goods on land, but selling goods on boats like this is indeed very rare.
Each boat will sell a different item, from delicious fresh fruits of the West to household items needed for daily life. The owners of the boats will hang the items they sell on a pole - the people here call it a "bump" tree so that buyers can easily recognize it.
And yet, the dishes are also sold on the boat. I will never forget the feeling of sitting on a small boat swaying on the water and enjoying a bowl of Western-style vermicelli noodles (priced at 15,000 VND). This can be said to be the most interesting memory of my trip.

Lively floating market and try local produce
#bucketlistreboot
Once visiting Cai Rang floating market located in Can Tho, you will be amazed by how crowded and lively this market is. During the early morning market hours, larger sized boats anchor and create lanes that smaller boats weave in and out of. The waterway becomes a maze of hundreds of boats packed with mango, bananas, papaya, pineapple, and even smuggled goods like cigarettes.
Sellers do not have to cry out about their goods because their goods can be seen in a distance and their cries would not be heard in the vastness of the river and the noise of boat engines. Small boats that sell beer, wine and soft drinks go among the other boats to serve market-goers and visitors. Sellers tie their goods to a tall pole so that buyers can see from a distance what they are selling.
Floating market in Vietnam 🇻🇳
Cai Rang Floating Market is a largest floating market in Can Tho City, Vietnam which was recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage by the Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in June 2016.
The distance of Cai Rang Floating Market is 6 km from Ninh Kieu wharf, city center of Can Tho.
The floating market has a history of about 100 years for local people from the villages to trade & exchange goods in Mekong Delta River when the streets & vehicles were not yet ready. 🤣
Cai Rang Floating Market is open daily from sunset to sunset, but the best time to visit is from 5.30am to 6.30am. ☺️
This is because travelers are able to embrace the amazing sunrise 🌅 & enjoy the joyful atmosphere of a big number of boats in the waterway to trade fresh vegetables and fruits, handicrafts, and daily essential household goods.
There are 2 main options going to Cai Rang Floating Market:
📍 Go to Ninh Kieu Wharf & purchase a boat ticket to Cai Rang, costs about USD2 - USD4
📍 Join group tour offered by travel agencies, costs about USD30 for a day tour in Can Tho City
The sweet escape from busy life is to visit a new city.
When in Rome, do as the Romans do 🤗
Attraction: Cai Rang floating market, downstream of Can Tho river, no. 46 Hai Ba Trung street, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city
Opening hours: 5.30am - 6.30pm, daily

Mekong Delta Region Tour
Explore one of the common destinations of tourists in Vietnam. Mekong River is about 2 hours away from Ho Chi Minh City by van or bus. There are many travel agencies that offer this tour along with Cu Chi Tunnels, and most tours start in Ho Chi Minh City. This tour amazed me with the region's lush landscapes, vibrant culture, and unique way of life. The locals from these villages offered us their traditional snacks and candies and performed their folk songs. #mekongriver #vietnam#vietnamtravel
