Peaceful, quiet place to get away. I was the only one on the whole island. There were lots of unique shells
Unappealing
The information about accessing parts of the reserve is inadequate. Carrot Island seems to have a boardwalk but ferry express runs to an unappealing tip of the island. Need to im0rove how to visit.
Love the Ponies
This is just 200 meters from the water front of Beaufort. You can take a boat over to the Reserve and walk around or you can hope to view the ponies from a restaurant along the boardwalk in Beaufort

We took a sunset cruise on our first full day in Beaufort with Captain Ron and were able to see wild horses on the Rachel Carson Reserve, as well as birds and dolphins. Due to my physical limitations,...
