Situated in the Haidian District northwest of Beijing, the Summer Palace is a Unesco World Heritage site that used to be the palace and garden of the emperors of the Qing Dynasty. It is the largest and most well preserved royal park in China. Construction of the palace began in 1750 and it served as a residential and entertainment area for the royal members. The palace underwent two major reconstructions after suffering damages during invasions by the Anglo-French Allied Forces and the Eight-Power Allied Forces during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Summer Palace can be divided into three sectors: a political activity area centered at the Hall of Benevolence and Longevity; an empress living area concentrated around the Hall of Jade Billows and Hall of Joy and Longevity; and a tour route concentrated along the long corridor, rear hill, and the west sector.
The most beautiful place in Beijing is the blue sky and white clouds. If you come to the Summer Palace in the morning, the blue sky reflects the lake water, the golden Buddhist incense pavilion, the reflecting ancient willows of Xidi, the unsinkable stone silk and the 17-hole bridge guarded by the bronze bull. The Summer Palace is full of beautiful scenery, which makes you feel intoxicated and relaxed. The Summer Palace is a royal garden in the Qing Dynasty of China. Qingyi Garden, located in the western suburbs of Beijing, is 15 kilometers away from the urban area, covering an area of about 290 hectares, adjacent to the Yuanmingyuan. It is a large landscape garden based on Kunming Lake, Longevity Hill and Hangzhou West Lake. It is also the most complete imperial palace and imperial court preserved. It is well-deserved to be called "Royal Garden Museum". If you take another boat and ripple in the huge Kunming Lake, you will be immersed in the blue sky and clear water, the green willow and white bridge, the distant mountains and nearby buildings, which is like a dream of beauty painting. The Summer Palace will make you linger and forget to return, no matter how many times you come, you will still like it, and you will always want to come back and come again.
My favourite place in Beijing!! Ive been twice and would go again in a heartbeat. I go through the northern entrance to see the back palaces. then head towards the temple of buddhist incense which has a back entrance, then head down to the lake and go to the island. amazing time. took me about 3-4 hours each time. not great food there, would suggestto bring your own.
Going to summer palace requires one to have a lot of energy because of climbing up and down plus walking. Summer Palace offers a lot of activities while in the mountain such as boating and others. It is also important to rent an audio set to fully understand its history in whatever language you’re comfortable with, because going there without understanding its history, wont let you appreciate its unique beauty behind it.
I spent 5 and a half hours walking around the Summer Palace and I still didnt get to see everything - that is how massive the Summer Palace is. its like a huge national park and a MUST SEE! But make sure to wear comfotable walking shoes! The Summer Palace is a place thats great for relaxing, hiking and even jogging! If I lived in Beijing this would be my weekend relaxing spot!
The history alone of this palace is beautilful!!! Consisting of more than 9,000 rooms and spread over 250 acres, this huge palace complex was built in the 15th century and later extensively renovated and restored during the Qing Dynasty in the 18th century.
A huge park with a small museum. The park is centered around a large lake. Went in springtime and all the trees were blossoming like crazy. Gorgeous place for an afternoon stroll, maybe even a first date.
This place is way better than I was expecting! There is plenty to see, and it is all very photogenic. I ended up spending about four hours there, but I wish I could have stayed there longer!
