Not to miss attraction in Xiamen!Not only because of being Unesco World Heritage, but Gulangyu Island is plenty of nice architecture, history, nice views and wonderful beaches and streets. Reachable from Xiamen International Ferry Terminal in 20min. The island has two wharfs, one at the east and one at the west. One day visit is is a good idea to get an impression, but I guess in peak season is worth to spend a night and have more time to enjoy the sea and do further sightseeing.Must visit: Beaches, Riguang Cliff with the stunning views and the temple at the top, the parks, the area of former consulates and its buildings. There are many options to eat on the island and buy some local products or souvenirs.

Introduction
Gulangyu Island is a tiny island located on the estuary of the Chiu-lung River, facing the city of Xiamen. It is a Unesco World Heritage Site that used to be an important window for Sino-foreign exchanges during the 19th and 20th century. The island is a popular attraction for architecture enthusiasts, providing a mixture of different architectural styles including Traditional Southern Fujian Style, Western Classical Revival Style and Veranda Colonial Style. You can hike up the Sun Rock to overlook the whole island, take a walk in the Shuzhuang Garden (including the Piano Museum) which is one of the finest Jiangnan classical gardens, visit the Hao Yue Garden containing architectures from the Ming Dynasty (including a statue of national hero Zheng Chenggong), the organ museum, and the international letter carving art museum. Don't forget to send yourself a postcard from the future at local stores!

I visited on 29/09/2020. Charming island with beautiful sceneries and some paying attractions. the ferry is available 24/7 it costs 60 rmb.
We loved this wonderful island - short trip by ferry. There are so many good food and drinks options, great scenery and some buildings were amazing. You need a few hours to truly enjoy. Beware as some places are pretty steep for older people or those with walking difficulties. a walking / hiking stick is advisable. The tunnel is quite interesting with many people leaving and writing messages on the walls 😊
This is a paradise! Must do when in Xiamen!
