Photos of Jiadi Lane

Jiadi Lane is an ancient Chaozhou city where officials, eunuchs, merchants and aristocratic families lived together, condensing the essence of Chaozhou city's ancient dwellings. The colored inlaid porcelain on the gables of the residential buildings, the refined wood and stone carvings on the eaves and stigmas, and the forms of the gable ridges are divided into five types: “gold, wood, water, fire, and earth” according to the orientation and layout of the house. The floor adopts the local traditional red square bricks, and the paving of the indoor floor also has certain metaphors. For example, the oblique "people" shape of the floor in the hall means that people are popular and prosperous; the floor of the bedroom is paved with staggered seams. The "D" shape is a metaphor for giving birth to a boy; the floor of the aisle is paved with a "tian" shape, which is a metaphor for a family having fields. There are many ancient wells and ancient trees in the traditional dwellings in the "Yixing Jiasan Lane Historic District". There are 143 ancient wells in existence. Almost every dwelling has an ancient well, some of which are still in use. The ancient well "Yijing" in the Song Dynasty was also planted with trees.
