Meilang Sisters Towers

The Meilang Sisters Pagoda, also known as the Twin Pagodas, is located in the southeast of Meilang Village, Meiting Township, Chengmai County, Hainan Province. It is an ancient pagoda in the Yuan Dynasty. According to "Zhengde Qiongtai Zhi", Chen Daoxu, a native of the Yuan Dynasty, had two daughters, the eldest daughter was married, and the second daughter became a nun. He built this tower in memory of his two daughters. The tower is 17 meters high, one is a hexagonal long layer in plan, and there are six existing layers, imitating a wood structure attic. Each floor has a flat seat on the eaves of the tower. From the first floor to the third floor, there are 12 columns under the eaves of each floor, and there are bucket arches to support the fangs. From the fourth floor onwards, half-circle leaning pillars are hidden from the outer wall, there is no Buddha statue in the niche of the open-pointed coupon door, and a seated statue with a crown is carved in the center of the beard-string seat. The other one is quadrangular in shape and is divided into seven layers. The appearance and structure are the same as the upper tower, but more delicate. Each layer is engraved with Buddha statues in the outer walls and inner niches, with different postures. , lion, Xiezhi, tiger, horse, unicorn and other Ruishan and Buddhist patterns relief, the four corners are also carved with strong men's support. The two towers are 20 meters apart, and both have tall platform bases standing in the mountains and ponds, and there are railings around the platform. The overall shape of the tower is harmonious and beautiful, and there are changes to each other. The dozens of stone reliefs are exquisite and meticulous, and the images are lifelike, reflecting the social and secular life of the late Song and early Yuan Dynasty, and can be called the artistic treasures of the Qiongzhou Stone Pagoda.
