Rhino Well

Hunan Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit Rhino Well is located in the middle of Yuhou Street in Chengnan, Zhangzhou City, and was retained as one of the most important relics of Yuhou Street when the Yuhou Street was demolished and renovated in 2010. This magical ancient well is made of long stone, rectangular, long Zhangyu (3 meters), wide eight or nine feet (2.8 meters), deep about two meters. The well water is warm in winter, cool in summer, and the water quality is particularly pure, it can be seen that a boulder lying across the well, surrounded by a layer of moss and water grass, similar to a large rhino with a strong hair, sinking under the water. Legend has it that in ancient times, Shennong brought nine god rhinos to Zhangzhou, which made the place in Zhangzhou smooth and prosperous. However, the good scenery is not long, and I don't know where a evil dragon came from, bringing the plague to Zhangzhou. Nine rhinos fought it for nine days and nine nights to defeat the dragon. Finally, the dragon was defeated and eight rhinos drove the dragon out of Zhangzhou and chased it all the way to the East China Sea. There was also a rhino, who fell to his foot in the struggle and fell into the well of Yongquan, and became a boulder lying horizontally at the bottom of the well, and from then on, it was called a rhino well. In the well, the god rhino, although turned into a stone, was not spiritual. It saw the plague brought by the dragon raging in Zhangzhou, causing people to live in a desolate place, and then spewing a cool and luscious spring from their mouths. People were sick and drank a well water, and they could heal. Therefore, people also called the rhino well "the spring". Unlike many ancient wells in cities, rhino wells have not lost their luster because of the years, although tap water is now very convenient, but the surrounding residents still retain the habit of fetching water from ancient wells.

In Yuhou Street in the south of Zhangzhou City, there is a magical ancient well, which is made of long stone, rectangular, long Zhangyu, wide eight or nine feet, deep about a foot. The water is clear to the bottom, a boulder lying across the well, surrounded by a layer of moss and water grass, like a big rhino with a strong hair, sinking under the water. This is the famous rhino well in Zhangzhou, formerly known as "Yongquan".
