49 Black Sand Beach

Black sand beach is one of the most striking coastal scenery on the island of Hawaii, and it is also a special volcanic landscape. Due to the frequent volcanic activity on the Big Island of Hawaii, the unique black sand beach here is created. When the volcano erupted, the hot lava flow poured into the seawater. Under the cooling of the seawater, its shell quickly agglomerated and hardened, and the seawater was heated and turned into a large amount of superheated steam. The outer shell of the lava flow cannot withstand the tension of the steam inside, and it falls apart, breaking into pieces of lava. The lava fragments are mainly composed of iron-rich mafic minerals such as magnetite and gabbros, and are therefore black. Since then, lava debris has accumulated on the coast, and after years of erosion and grinding by the waves, it has turned into black sand. Stepping on the black sand with bare feet, there is no feeling of being pricked at all. Its delicate and soft touch can make people relax quickly and start to appreciate and enjoy this peculiar beach, and marvel at the magic of creation.
