It is the only pier in Hakodate until the railway pier was built, but now it is temporarily removed
Original Text
It is a pier used for landing from a ferry anchored offshore. It was the only pier in Hakodate until a railway pier was built near Hakodate Station. From October 2018 to March 2020, it was temporarily removed due to improvement work and green space maintenance work on the quay.
It's really a set with the monument of "Hokkaido First Step" right next to it. During the revetment maintenance work around the "West Wharf", the old dilapidated pier was once removed, and there is no prospect of restoration. It's a shame that tourists took only the "first step monument" as a commemoration. In the past 々 Before the large pier was built at Hakodate Port, the person 々 was an important point in history when the raft was placed next to this place and landed in Hokkaido.
It is an old pier located about a 2-minute walk from Suehirocho Station on the tram. Here, Hakodate is a transportation hub connecting Honshu and Hokkaido, and you can re-recognize the history that developed as a foothold for the development of the Hokkaido sea. The first monument of Hokkaido is nearby.
It is also a bus stop under the name of Higashihama Pier. You can take good pictures of the bay area from here. The pier itself is prohibited from entering, and I feel lonely somehow.

Removed due to aging and unrestored

This place was an old pier. I think that piers are now left behind. I think I was a little lonely.
