Majiagou Scenic Area

The beautiful and less crowded scenic spot in western Sichuan, Majiagou, which is dog-friendly, is highly recommended! As a scenic spot in western Sichuan, Majiagou is beautiful and less crowded. Not only is it pet-friendly, but dogs can also take the shuttle bus together. Address: Lianghe Township, Xiaojin County, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan. Route: Navigate to Majiagou Tourist Center, about 5 hours from Chengdu, about 1 hour from Xiaojin County. We drove the Baojin Line the day before, and the scenery is also stunning. Accommodation: Xiaojin Snow Mountain Habitat Hotel (P16-18, we stayed in a homestay tent room, clean and fully equipped for dogs) Scenic area cost: Environmental remediation fee + shuttle bus ticket total 60/person, parking lot 20 yuan/car, after purchasing tickets on site, wait at the entrance of the scenic area to take the shuttle bus. Shuttle bus time: The first bus is at 8:30, the last bus is at 16:30-17:00, every half an hour, the single journey takes about 15 minutes. Play time: The scenic area plank road tour is about 3.6km, passing through 3 seas, less than 2 hours one way, and the plank road is relatively easy to walk. The last Moon Lake requires about 1.8km of mountain hiking to reach (high altitude hiking is recommended to prepare hiking equipment and dry food supplies), which takes about 2 hours one way. We haven't specifically visited the scenic spots in western Sichuan for a long time. In addition to some scenic spots having restrictions on pets, we prefer less crowded niche spots in western Sichuan and the beautiful scenery encountered along the way, free and surprising. So we are also very grateful to pet-friendly scenic spots like Majiagou, which give us the opportunity to experience different beautiful scenery with our dogs.

Everywhere is a view! I was amazed by my trip to Majiagou in November. Before going, I chose between Songpinggou and Majiagou, and finally chose Majiagou. I didn't expect everything to be perfect! Although some parts are like Bipenggou, the valley is much wider when you climb up, and it's not inferior to the big view, really few people and beautiful scenery! Time: November 2-3, 2023 Number of people: 2 Travel mode: Self-driving One-way duration: 5 and a half hours (excluding sightseeing time on the road) Cost: 682 yuan (fuel and toll fees 368+ accommodation 109+ scenic spot 140+ meals 65) We set off from Chengdu at 4 am and arrived at Majiagou at 12 noon. Detailed strategy as follows: Scenic spot basic information: Address: Navigate to "Aba Xiaojin County Majiagou Tourist Center" Cost: Sanitation cleaning fee 30+ sightseeing car 30+ parking fee 20/vehicle Altitude: 3700 meters (sightseeing car drop-off point)-3900 meters (Qumei Cuo, most people turn back at this high point)-4250 meters (Dawa Yongcuo (Moon Lake), a few advanced players turn back at this high point) Tour time (one way, uphill all the way): 7 km road (sightseeing car) 15 minutes + 3.7 km wooden plank road 2 hours (to Qumei Cuo) + 1.8 km dirt road (Qumei Cuo to Moon Lake) 1 and a half hours Tour and highlights: Yi Ang Qu Cuo: The first sea you slowly ascend to. There are snow-capped mountains, colorful forests, wooden houses, meadows, swings, and the dead tree in the middle of the sea is very special Majiagou Yun Cuo: A slightly steeper climb to the colorful pool. Surrounded by colorful forests, with snow-capped mountains behind Qiong Ruo Cuo Mu: Steep continuous steps up, it will be very panting to climb up, but don't turn back, up is a very open pass, only to hear a "wow" sound, below is Qiong Ruo Cuo Mu wetland, the farther sea is Qumei Cuo, beautiful to incoherence Qumei Cuo: Downhill through Qiong Ruo Cuo Mu, the wooden plank road becomes a stone road, the large sea in front of you is very beautiful, and there are swings! Dogs can be brought, Qumei Cuo must turn back at 16 o'clock, and it takes 40 minutes to go down the mountain Points to note: 1 Sun protection/clothing: The weather forecast for the day was cloudy to light rain, but it was actually sunny. It was colder and sunnier after entering the ditch. It is recommended to bring a hat and wear a thin down jacket/thick storm jacket that can be taken off 2 Food and beverage: There is no food provided in the tourist center and the scenic area (at least not when we went during the week), bring dry food to prevent hunger Accommodation: There is no accommodation in the scenic area, we stayed in Shuanghekou Village, a few minutes drive 4 Travel: If you want to go to Moon Lake, be sure to arrive at the scenic spot early, otherwise there will not be enough time 5 Signal: There is no signal in the ditch, beware of drones falling and not being found Complaints: Sightseeing car 1 Majiagou's current reception capacity is limited, there are only two sightseeing cars, which are older buses, with limited seats, and people have to wait to be full before they leave (can stand) 2 We arrived at 12 noon, and it was almost 13 o'clock before we set off into the ditch; the return trip was said to be the last bus at 17 o'clock, and it was not until 17:30 that we were sent out of the ditch Going to Majiagou to see the colorful forest at the end of October and the beginning of November is very beautiful. If you miss it, you must go once next year. It is still relatively primitive. There were not many people when we went during the week, basically retired ladies and uncles. Those with average physical strength must go to Qumei Cuo!

Majiagou is a beautiful valley in Aba, Sichuan province. It's a 5 hours drive from Chengdu, about 70% of the way is highway. It's a wonderful place for hiking and natural scenery. You can hike a few km into the valley or do a bigger two days hike, both is possible! 🚘 Drive about 5 hours from Chengdu.
