Mata Lake

Mata Lake is located in the northern part of Huantai County, 12 kilometers from east to west, 8 kilometers from north to south, and 96 square kilometers in radius. In 1995, it was listed as a provincial-level scenic spot by the Shandong Provincial Government. The lake area has beautiful scenery, pleasant climate and numerous historical sites. The clear water in the lake, the river channels are vertical and horizontal, interwoven into a net, and the reeds and lotus ponds are endless. In the middle of the lake by boat, the willows are towering, the pampas reeds are on the road, and the winding path leads to the secluded. There are 300,000 Chinese and foreign tourists visiting here every year. The foreign guests came from more than a dozen countries and regions, including the United States, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Germany, and Japan. Mata Lake is rich in products. The lake produces dozens of species of bass, silver carp, crucian carp, eel, crab, etc. There are more than 70 kinds of wild birds. Screen fans and other handicrafts are exported to many countries and regions. The lake is famous for its high quality and delicious food. Golden duck eggs, fish and dragon fragrant rice, and white lotus root were once the tributes of the imperial courts in the past dynasties. When Nixon visited China in 1972, he ate the white lotus root in the lake. Fried lotus, lotus seed soup, loach balls, and Pubai eel soup are all good dishes. Golden duck eggs have become an excellent tourism product in the province.
