The quaint and elegant mountain village is absolutely stunning!
In the northwest of Dali Prefecture, there is a place called Yunlong County, named after the Lancang River, 'The river is covered with clouds and fog at night, and it gradually rises into a dragon in the morning'. In Yunlong County, there is a NuoDeng ancient village, which became famous because of its ham production and was featured in 'A Bite of China'.
For more than a thousand years since the Nanzhao period of the Tang Dynasty, the name of 'NuoDeng' village has never changed, so it is called the 'Millennium Bai Ethnic Village'. The tranquility here has not been broken by fame. The people living here work at sunrise and rest at sunset. There are no crowded subways, no bustling streets, they spend every day with mountains and rivers, and sleep with the sea of clouds. If you want to spend a few days away from the world, this is the best place.
NuoDeng ancient village is about 150 kilometers away from Dali, and self-driving is the most convenient way. Buses can reach Yunlong County, and there are about 7 kilometers from the county town to NuoDeng village. You can take a local tricycle to get there. If you can carpool, it is also suitable.
The entire village is built on the mountain, with houses stacked on top of each other, unevenly distributed, quite imposing. The lowest point of the village is 1900 meters above sea level, and the highest point is the Jade Emperor Pavilion, which is more than 2100 meters above sea level, with a large drop.
The style of the front doors of each household in NuoDeng residential buildings is different, and the style is quite grand but not lacking in elegance. The brick walls of each household have a history of hundreds of years, and the furniture, antiques, and daily necessities from the Ming and Qing Dynasties are still preserved in the house. The existing residences can be traced back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
The famous NuoDeng ham is just a common dish here. Almost every household has ham for sale. The ham is marinated for three years and the taste is at its peak. It can be eaten raw, and the quality will decline afterwards. Perhaps in other places, ham can be used as a good seasoning, a small piece of flavor; but here, ham is directly used for stewing, and it is very enjoyable. If it is stewed with local red beans, the flavor is even better.
What impresses me most about this village is that despite its fame, it has not been swept away by commercialization. I have been there twice in the past three years, and it is still quietly located in the deep mountains. The residents there are very simple, doing farm work and making ham. The main means of transportation in the village still relies on horses to transport supplies from the bottom of the mountain to the top.
There are many attractions in NuoDeng Village, and you can take your time to visit and appreciate them during your leisure time. There are many steps on the mountain road, so you need to have a certain physical strength. When you get to NuoDeng, you can also go to a scenic spot, which is the Yunlong Tai Chi Viewing Platform in Yunlong County. Here you can watch a natural Tai Chi diagram for free, nature is really wonderful.

The whole village of Nuodeng Ancient Village is listed as the Bai nationality millennium ancient village of the key cultural relics protection unit in the country. It is so beautiful! Be sure to wear a pair of better hiking shoes. The stone steps of Nuodeng Ancient Village will make you doubt your life. The steps are very irregular, which one can't be used, so I will find a piece from the mountain to replace it, so the size is different and the height is uneven. However, the original has original beauty. If you come to an investment group one day, make it into the "thousand town side", it will be boring.
Dali Nuodeng Millennium Bai nationality ancient village, such a deep hidden in the depths of the mountains, poor and backward primitive, even dilapidated small mountain village, can make the whole village as a whole be rated as a key cultural relics protection unit in the country, it is really amazing! You Nuodeng, really must slow down, little by little look. The whole village has hundreds of Ming and Qing buildings, the Republic of China buildings, the public temples, the pavilion, the pavilion, the pavilion, etc., and the pavilion is spectacular. There is also the only Confucian temple built in the village-level administrative area in the country, and there is a Guangong Temple next to it. The Wensage and Wusage are worshipped by the villagers, which shows how deep the cultural heritage of Nuodeng Ancient Village is.
Nuo Deng ham is definitely the most ugly ham in the cloud legs, thanks to CCTV "Tongue" to make it out of the depths of the mountains, more than three years can be raw food, but still fried to eat. Playing Nuodeng Ancient Village is definitely a strength work. Climbing the steps can really climb to bite the teeth. It has a primitive taste, but the accommodation is still good to return to the county. Eating in the county seat is indeed a problem. After searching for a restaurant, it is overcrowded, and you will find a restaurant to fill your stomach.
I believe many people know that Nuodeng Ancient Village starts with Nuodeng Ham in the "flavor on the tip of the tongue". This Bai village for more than a thousand years is located on a hillside, so after entering the village, luggage must be carried up the mountain with the help of dumplings. The village is most famous for the salt wells that began to be mined in the Han Dynasty, and the salt produced here made the ham of Nordeng.
People who come here should be clear. This is an ancient village in the deep mountains that is relatively well preserved. Entering and entering the village is very physical. I think only Dalang Dam and Taiji Lock Water are the most worth visiting. This is a place where you escape the hustle and bustle, watch the sun rise and sunset, and drink tea in a daze. If you are fleeing the hustle and bustle of the city, come out to relax, stay in a place and drive by yourself, it is great. The well-preserved ancient villages are very life-like, there are many homestays and the boss can make local specialties. The Yuhuang Pavilion and other buildings on the top of the village are also very beautiful. Pay attention to the observation and even find that the ancient buildings on the top of the village seem to have been used as primary schools. My wife and I stayed in Nuodeng for two days. Every day I slept until I woke up naturally. When I was hungry, I asked the owner of the hotel to cook and eat. I drank tea in a daze. I climbed to the top of the village to see the ancient buildings. I went to Dalangba (Dalangba is another story), passing by Yunlong Taiji Observation Deck halfway. The ancient buildings at the top of the village feel beautiful and fragile, but it takes physical strength to climb to the top of the village at one time (unless the homestay is in the upper part), probably because the stone steps are too high per step. Be sure to go to the toilet before going to the top of the village, don't ask why. . . Nuo Deng has his imperfect place, he is inconvenient to enter and exit, even can be said to be difficult, luggage needs the owner of the hotel to ask the dumplings to pull; after the crowd, he fell a lot of garbage; the ancient buildings on the top of the village are not well maintained, I don't know how much spring and autumn can be experienced. . . I think he is not good enough because he has too much expectation, because he has been here, and there is a connection, so I hope he will become better, I hope he will be liked by more people, and I hope that when I come back many years later, I can still find the peace that I once had.
