Nyhavn is a waterfront, canal and entertainment district built in 1670 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Lined with shining colored 17th and 18th century townhouses and bars, cafes and restaurants, Nyhavn spans from Kongens Nytorv to the harbour front just south of the Royal Playhouse. Nyhavn is a well known tourist destination in addition to being a popular area for locals. The cafes, bars, and restaurants attract many visitors particularly in the summer. Nyhavn is also known for being the former home of the fairy-tale writer Hans Christian Andersen. Nyhavn can be toured by taking a boat through the canals or by strolling along the waterfront.
