Introduction
Unter den Linden, situated in the heart of historic Berlin, is the city’s grandest boulevard. Stretching nearly a mile, this grand pedestrian mall “under the linden trees,” as its name describes, was constructed in the 16th century by Elector John George of Brandenburg to create a path to his hunting grounds. The 19th century saw great growth for the area, making Unter den Linden the most prominent street in Berlin. A famous equestrian statue of King Frederick II of Prussia was erected in its center, constructed in 1851 by designer Daniel Rauch.

What the Champ d'elysees is to Paris, Unter den Linden is to Berlin. Though it is a little bit more stark on this street. You know... Communist rule and all. But since the reunification, there is life on this street once more. Starting from Brandenburg Gate it reaches far to the Reichstag. A good portion of the main sites of Berlin can be found along this street.
