Wuguniang Park is located at the western entrance of the ancient town Xitang, covering an area of 3,000 square meters, which includes the Wuguniang statue, Duwating Pavilion, and a water stage, among other features. A true love story is circulated in Xitang. In the late Qing Dynasty, Miss Wuguniang, the daughter of the Yang family landlord from Tangdong village, fell in love with the long-term worker Xu Atian. They faced opposition from her half-brother and she was persecuted to death. Later, her love story was turned into a Tian Ge (field song) and has been sung here for over a hundred years. The musical 'Wuguniang' adapted from the Jiashan Tian Ge won the Wenhua Award at the 7th China Arts Festival. Duwating Pavilion is a special tile Xu Atian made as a kiln worker to express his love for Wuguniang, which he used to cover a pavilion. Inside the pavilion hangs a bell, engraved with the scene of their rendezvous here and the words 'love at first sight'. About 'Tian Ge' Tian Ge is a rural folk song passed down among the people of Xitang, still sung in the neighboring areas of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai to this day, and is a precious local musical cultural heritage of China. It is particularly noteworthy that the musical 'Wuguniang' adapted from the Xitang Tian Ge won the Wenhua Award at the 7th China International Arts Festival. Moreover, in 1954, the late Yue opera writer Gu Xidong adapted it into the Yue opera 'Wuguniang', performed by the Zhejiang Yue Opera Troupe. I've been to many ancient towns, and finally checked in Xitang~ The first impression - this must be the real Jiangnan‼️ Next is its size, it's at least five times as big as the Xinchang ancient town I often go to~ Here, the souvenirs, dining, and accommodation are quite distinctive, and it's super fun to shop and eat~ Of course, some popular drinks🥤 and accessories are a bit pricey though~ ✅How to play: The entire ancient town is built along the river, with an antique charm. Along the street, there are various foods, accessories, clothing, tea, and hat shops, where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery while browsing and eating. There are also many clothing galleries where you can experience ancient and ethnic costumes for travel photography, which can be done for around 200. There are several museums in the scenic area, as well as a bar street, where the atmosphere is super exciting at night~ ✅Accommodation choices: It is recommended to stay inside the scenic area when visiting Xitang to experience the flow of time in the ancient town. There are many hotels and small B&Bs in the scenic area. I prefer the larger ones, and the Xitang Chengshang Shijia Hotel I booked is pretty good, with a luxury type, spacious lobby and rooms, and standardized services, offering great value for money. ✅Dining features: When in Xitang, you must try the local specialties. I recommend Yulou Chun, I've been to both locations in the scenic area, they offer great value for money, a better environment, and the view is fantastic. And the dishes are really excellent, with an average price of around 40 per person for a very good meal. For breakfast, there are even more options, with fried dough sticks, xiaolongbao, noodles, wontons, and a focus on whatever you desire.
