Ft Gorges in winter.
The views from the Eastern Promenade are so great, and Ft Gorges is one of them -- a little jewel surrounded by sapphire waters. It's accessible by tour or kayak.
Abandoned fort on the island of Casco Bay. Previously for military purposes and now it can only be accessed by private tours. We caught sight of this fort while our cruise ship entered the bay area.
Saw this for on a Casco Bay cruise and heard its history from the cruise narrator. Beautiful mililtary fort- even if seen from a passing bay cruise. If I come back I would do an actual tour of it.
Fun to look out from the mainland at this old fort. Our guide on the fire truck tour told us the greenery on top was poison ivy, but I don't really believe him.

Joined a tour by the Friends of Fort Gorges from their website. Bit of a challenge to get on the pier, but well worth it! Having the keys to the "off-limits" areas was a real benefit and the guide kne...
