Shwe Oo Min Pagoda is located in Pindaya town, Shan State, Myanmar.

🕷️ Pindaya is situated at the foot of a western range of Mene-mountain over 5,000 feet high and 3,880 feet above the sea level.

🕷️ Pindaya is located in a limestone ridge on a high plateau and the way from Taunggyi to Pindaya is full with scenic beauty of panorama mountains and the pleasant features in the Southern Shan State.

🕷️ Entering the plateau of Pindaya, the great mountain range appeared to dwarf the city and lake down below.

🕷️ Aged banyan trees lie along the way to the beautiful Pindaya Lake.

🕷️ You will see a welcome concrete sign-post with a huge black spider in the centre of its web towering above.

🕷️ This huge spider is connected with the legendary history of Pindaya.

🕷️ The 200 steps up the covered stairway leading to the cave entrance.

🕷️ The hike up Shwe Oo Min is relatively easy, there is also an elevator to help climb this cave.

🕷️ The caves are supposed to be 20,000 million years old and since ancient times they have been places of worship and veneration with 8,094 Buddha images made from various materials like teak wood, marble, alabaster, brick, cement and lacquer.

🕷️ All enshrined in the nooks and corners of the winding caverns.

🕷️ At the entrance to the main cave there is a pagoda 50 feet in height. This pagoda is called Shwe Oo Min pagoda or the Golden Cave pagoda.

🕷️ The entire length of the cave is 490 feet.

🕷️ There are the famous sweating Buddhas, a series of jade images that are at all times covered by condensation. Devotees believe that people who rub the ‘sweat’ onto their own faces will be imbued with good fortune and beauty. It will find that their ailments are healed.

🕷️ The famous stalactites stalagmites in these limestone caves are named as the “ Fairy Princess Loom”, “ Posts for tying horses and elephants” and so on.

🕷️ Among the unusual features in the cave is a set of stalagmites that can be struck with large wooden mallets to produce gong tone.

🕷️ Some of the smaller caves used as meditation chambers.

🕷️ Shwe Oo Min Pagoda celebrates its festival around the full moon day Tabaung (during February or March).

🕷️ During the festival time, thousands of pilgrims and visitors come to the cave to pay homage.

🕗 Opening hours : 08:00 AM ~ 17:00 PM

📪 Direction :

▪️ The nearest airport is Heho, which receives flights from major cities like Yangon and Mandalay.

▪️ From Heho Airport, it takes about 1.5 hours by car or taxi to reach Pindaya.

▪️ Upon arriving Pindaya town, you can be reached easily by taxi, bicycle, or on foot depending on your preference.

📅 The best time to visit is during November to February.

▪️Barefoot before entering the temple building.

▪️Dress modestly and respectfully. Should be covered shoulders and knees. Avoid see-through clothing.
