I am a novice history buff and was wanted to know the history of Manila/Phillipines. Tried reading about it in Lonely Planet, but not the same. Carlos's tour was very informative, entertaining and emotional. I would DEFINITELY recommend taking his tour. The guy is hilarous and clearly takes his history and culture seriously. The only issue is getting a taxi back home. A bit hard to find and as his tour ends at dusk, the area get a bit shady, so try to arrange for someone to pick you up - just in case."

You can only walk down one main path which is also littered with horse carts asking to give you a 'tour'. When you finally reach the top part of the fort... It's drenched in this awful smell from the nearby polluted river. Definitely a pass until they can clean it up."

Intramuros of Manila is a good place to stroll. It is also known as Wall City. The castle was then built by Spanish people to rule the Philippines. Now, you can see carriages run through the city freely. Buildings here are old and historic. You only need to take one day to feel like you’ve gone back in time.

Manila Travel Tips

About Manila

Manila is the capital city of the Philippines. New and old are interwoven with each other in this city which integrates eastern and western culture. Because it was once ruled by Spain, this place has quite the southwestern European atmosphere. Manila has a forest of skyscrapers. Its many streets and churches hold a hundred years of history, as well as gardens, alleys and byways full of blooming flowers. Downtown Manila is an excellent place to appreciate the city’s Spanish style. The Manila Cathedral, or Minor Basilica and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, San Augustin Church and the Casa Manila museum are all located in the city. You can take a horse-drawn carriage tour around to visit them. Manila Bay, especially the waterfront Roxas Boulevard, is a beautiful place from which to watch the sunset. You also visit some places in the suburban outskirts of Manila, such as Tagatai to hike up the volcano or Pagsanjan to take part in exciting activities like rafting.
