Pudacuo National Park is a vast nature reserve classified as a 5A tourist attraction in China. The park is located about 30 minutes drive from Shangri-La, China.
The park includes two scenic areas, Shudu Lake in the north, and Bita Lake in the south of the park. The lakes are surrounded by mountainous woods, streams and grass lands. If you're lucky, you'll see some wild animals.
As opposed to other parks I've been to in China, it seems that this park is completely natural. In order to preserve the nature around the lakes, walking is limited to a boardwalk along each lake. The boardwalk along Bita Lake is blocked midway for some reason.
Since the park is very big, shuttles take the people from the park entrance to the scenic areas.

Yubeng Village Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
I thought Jade Dragon Snow Mountain was beautiful, until I went to Yubeng
After visiting Lijiang and witnessing the majesty of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
After going to Shaxi and witnessing the traces of the ancient Tea Horse Road
I once again embarked on a journey to Yubeng
Outside the car window is the snow-covered Napahai
A fleeting glimpse of the Songzanlin Monastery
Further ahead is the surging Lancang River winding through the canyons
Entering the Baima Snow Mountain, it becomes a vast expanse of endless white

📠 Yubeng Travel Tips
① You can fly directly to Diqing Shangri-La/Lijiang
② Lijiang has opened a direct high-speed train to Shangri-La taking 1.5h
③ You can stay one night in Shangri-La, as you might miss
The car to Yubeng, just stay in the city for one night, and set off early the next day
④ Take a business car from Shangri-La to Xidang Village parking lot for 4-5h
Usually a 7-seater business car, 600-700 yuan/car, can be chartered or shared
⑤ Yubeng scenic area ticket is 55 yuan/person, you can take an off-road vehicle or hike in (hiking one way is about 8h)
⑥ The ticket to Lower Yubeng Village is 260 yuan/person, and the return trip is 200 yuan/person
(In case of snow and extreme weather, the off-road vehicles will stop operating, and you can only hike in)
⑦ Yubeng scenic area stops selling tickets at 17:00 every day

Getting There-  first getting to the glacier lake requires you to first arrive in the upper you want village once you arrive there you follow the very clear, mapped out trails into a steep incline up into the snow mountain. How long is the hike to glacier lake? Wow that depends summer it’s around six hours back-and-forth winter I would say 7 to 8 hours. but this lake is well worth it in the summer time you can see the Clearwater you can see the mini waterfalls coming off of the mountain and the winter time you get to see the frozen lake you hike through the snow and you are standing at the base of the snow mountain.

Most hidden worlds are usually out of reach. In the deepest part of Shangri-La, a place that was once impossible to find on a map, there are spectacular canyons, clear streams, ancient villages and strange geological wonders. Now it has a magical name - Balagezong.
📌Origin: Legend has it that Gezong Snow Mountain is the protector of Shangri-La, and Balagezong is a sacred place that everyone yearns for but cannot reach. It has been isolated from the world for thousands of years. When Snadindzhu was young, he had the opportunity to leave the mountains for the first time because of an eye injury. After becoming wealthy, he spent all his family wealth, carried a huge debt, and spent ten years building this plateau sky road, allowing the world to see the true face of Balagezong.
🧭Explore the hidden world:
Take a sightseeing car up the mountain from the main entrance, and the winding mountain road with dozens of big turns makes people sigh at the difficulty of this project. The view from the air is quite shocking.
Recommended itinerary: Millennium Bodhi Tree - Echo Wall - Xiangbala Stupa (optional) - Bala Village - Shangri-La Grand Canyon.
📍Xiangbala Stupa: The mountain is the stupa, and the stupa is the mountain; rock walls, stupas, snow mountains, wastelands, prayer flags, etc. are integrated into a paradise in the depths of the 4000-meter-high plateau. After a heavy snowfall, it is even more silver-clad and particularly sacred.
📍Bala Village: A Tibetan village with a history of more than 1300 years, surrounded by high mountains, retains the traditional ethnic style. Either walk along the plank road and enjoy the cliffs, waterfalls and deep valleys. Or drift down, fresh and exciting, feel the heartbeat of nature.
📍Millennium Bodhi Tree: The thousand-year-old Bodhi tree at the entrance welcomes guests. Despite the wind and rain, it is still full of vitality. The small trunk sprouts a large number of branches and leaves, covering a whole cliff.
📍Echo Wall: The natural huge mountain recess is named for its loud echo. Along the suspended plank road on the cliff, you can overlook the Shangri-La Grand Canyon and the snow-capped mountains. The Sky Mirror at the end is like a blue high-altitude swimming pool. Looking down is very exciting, and you can also experience the high-altitude zip line, flying on the top of the plateau.
In Balagezong, you can feel the grandeur and mystery of nature, and also understand the depth and colorfulness of minority culture. The trip to Shangri-La might as well add this stop.
Transportation & Tickets
🚗It takes about 2 hours to drive from Dukezong Ancient City, the ticket is 170 yuan, and 165 yuan online.
🎫The package ticket is 225 yuan, including the ticket and the bus from Dukezong Ancient City to the scenic area and the shuttle bus in the scenic area.
The ticket to Xiangbala Stupa needs to be bought separately at the Echo Wall scenic spot for 75, highly recommended. Shangri-La Balagezong Scenic Area

Shangri-La's final secret realm, Balagezong
Balagezong, a secret realm that was once unfindable on any map, is full of miracles everywhere, the Buddha's hand stretched out by the thousand-year-old Bodhi tree, the natural sacred mountain that resembles a stupa, and the character Sna Dingzhu who seems like the chosen one.
Sna Dingzhu is the founder of the Balagezong scenic area and the hero who changed the fate of Bara Village for 1300 years. The former Bara Village was almost isolated from the world. It took five days to get out of the mountains. If someone got sick, they could only die on the road. Sna Dingzhu's one eye was injured and delayed treatment and completely blinded when he was a child. Since then, he has dreamed of building a road for Bara Village. At the age of 13, he went out to do business, fought for more than 20 years, accumulated tens of millions of wealth all used to go home to build roads, spent ten years, carried a huge debt, and finally had this life road of Bara Village. Since then, the world map finally has Balagezong.

Balagezong Grand Canyon Park
Balagezong Grand Canyon park is located about 1.5-2 hours drive from Shangri-La, towards the north. The park contains some of the following scenic areas and attractions:
- Tibetan Cultural Experience Center
- Bala Village
- Echo Wall High-Altitude Glass Skywalk
- Shambara Natural Pagoda
- Gallery Road
- Bodhi Tree
Since the park is very big and steep, it is required to use the shuttle buses of the park to go from place to place.
The Tibetan Cultural Experience Center is actually a Tibetan Buddhist temple, which you can enter and even go up to the second floor.
The Bala Village does not seem to be a real village. It is a complex of buildings belonging to a hotel inside the park. In the village there are two restaurants, one is the hotel's, and a second one sells traditional Tibetan food.
The Echo Wall High-Altitude Glass Skywalk is reached after a relatively short hike along a path attached to the side of a cliff. From the skywalk you will be able to see a big part of the canyon. No one in the group that I traveled with attempted to shout in order to hear an echo. On the way back you can ride on a zipline for an extra fee.
To go to Shambara Natural Pagoda you have to pay an extra fee (I'm not sure if it's 75 or 100RMB). Since I chose not to go there, I'm not sure what there is to see. According to the pictures I saw, it is a mountain peak in the shape of a Pagoda.
The Gallery Road is a raised road along the river flowing in the canyon. The water there is crystal clear and flows rapidly. After walking about half an hour, you reach a boat house at the end of the road, where for an additional 100RMB you can choose to take a rubber boat back to the beginning of the gallery.
The Bodhi Tree is located near the parking lot of the park, outside the park entrance. It is an ancient holy tree (a few thousand years old) growing on a cliff wall.
The road to the park is beautiful, and I would consider it part of the attraction.
