There are sometimes very few places in Dubai that travelers can really feel like they can make a connection to Emirate and Dubai culture, but the government has done a great job of presenting this place in a way that feels true to historical culture and makes it accessible to modern day visitors. Stick around after you have finished looking at the architecture and the exhibits, and try a shisha pipe on the tables overlooking the water. Especially as the sun goes down, there are few more peaceful places anywhere in the city.
Heritage Village is a must see in Dubai. It's easy to get caught up in sleek, sophisticated Dubai and lose sight of it's roots. Heritage Village will give you a better understanding of the culture and the Emirate people. Amongst the souvenir shops there's a local artist shop. You can negotiate a great rate on a painting from a local artist.
The Heritage Village, found at the entrance of the Dubai Creek, displays highlights of the traditional Emirati lifestyles and businesses from ancient handicraft works to coin and stamp collecting, while the Diving Village showcases the pearl collecting practices in the past. Much like the Dubai Museum, you also get to buy souvenirs.
For anyone seeking to learn about life in Dubai before the discovery of oil and the boom of tourism, make your way to the Heritage and Diving Village. These live exhibitions were created in 1997 to represent life in pre-metropolitan Dubai, incorporating aspects of traditional ways of living. Tourists can observe potters and weavers practicing their traditional crafts at the Heritage Village and learn about the significance of pearl diving in Dubai at the Diving Village. I suggest an evening visit during the Dubai Shopping Festival -- this is when it is most lively with exhibitions, from traditional cooking lessons to shipbuilding.
Dubai Folk Village is located on the edge of Dubai Creek in Dubai. It was rebuilt on the basis of an old village. Most of the buildings here retain the style of ancient buildings 100 years ago. It is worth visiting to fully experience the scenes of people's life here before the oil boom was discovered.
