The Otago Peninsula is the most beautiful place in Dunedin. There is a long road along the coastline. Driving on this road is really refreshing. There are both beautiful bays and very beautiful forests here. It is really a pleasant and romantic place.
The sky full of gannets is returning to their nests, and there is a romantic Milky Way, probably due to the light, or the color of the sea side is better.
In fact, the whole of Dunedin can be regarded as a U-shape: the left side of U is on the South Island, Signal Hill and Baldwin Street are on this side, and the industrial atmosphere is heavier; the right side of U is the Otago Peninsula. On the peninsula, there are beaches, cliffs, countryside, castles, various wildlife, etc., with a strong natural atmosphere; the bottom of U is the center of Dunedin. There are albatross center, penguin world, castle, flying sand beach, etc. on the peninsula. Among them, flying sand beach is recommended. We saw wild yellow-eyed penguins, sea lions and seals there. In addition, there are two roads on the peninsula, one is a coastal road, and one section is close to the sea, without guardrails at all, which is very exciting to drive; the other is a mountain road with narrow roads, some sections of roads are on the edge of cliffs, and the road does not even have a middle line. ; But the scenery on both roads is very good, don't miss it.
In order to visit the Albatross Center, we drove there early in the morning, driving along the seaside was a bit of fog, adding to the curiosity of the island. Although visiting the Albatross Center did not see the albatross very close, we only saw the albatross from a distance. The flying figure was a bit disappointed, but the fog dissipated on the return trip. The scenery along the coast was really beautiful. The bus stops one by one were also painted with beautiful pictures, very cute! This place is really worth visiting!
It is highly recommended if the weather is good. On the side of the peninsula is a warm and calm bay area. The roads are built along the coast. The roads are narrow and winding, and the scenery is pleasant. It is said that there is an albatross center at the end of the road and a ticket is required. After admiring the scenery of the bay, we crossed the island and drove all the way to sandflybay (sandfly bay). The road over the mountain is not easy to drive, so we need to drive carefully. When we dashed down a big downhill, we screamed at the sight of Sandfly Bay. It takes 5 minutes to walk from the parking place to the viewing platform, but it takes 40 minutes to walk to the beach, and you can see sea lions basking on the beach up close. Two-thirds of the trekking road is fine white sand, and you have to go down a slope to the beach. When I went there, I didn't feel steep. I found that climbing was very difficult when I came back. You can also visit the castle on the island when you have time. Some people choose to live in the castle, but they must book in advance. We didn't book one month in advance.
