The Museum is free and always host great exhibitions, some might cost (a very small price), so it’s better to check online and if possible reserve a ticket but you can also buy them on the spot. The Museum is huge and gorgeous, perfect to spend a rainy day and it offers you a world of discovery all under one roof. So you can entertain anyone as there are many trails you can follow: art, science and technology, the natural world, design & fashion, Scottish history and archeology. It’s truly a gem.

nice place with lots to see. I enjoyed this a lot. The staff were very helpful.
free entry and you are going to see interested things of Scotland and other parts of world. :PPP
Recently had a major refurbishment which has totally transformed what was already one of the best museums in the UK. You could easily spend a full day here and keep the children entranced. The Tower restaurant is also excellent. In 2017 the museum was the most popular attraction in Scotland with 1.81 million visitors. All this and entry is free!
Inside of Edinburgh Castle, you can see the National War Museum. The museum spans thousands of years, from clan-clan battles to modern day soldiering and everything in between. It is a fun and interesting browse, while exploring the castle.
