Woyun Temple is the only remaining ancient temple on the highest peak of Mount Emei, with an altitude of about 3064 meters. It was built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. Because the temple was surrounded by white clouds under the rock and lying in the clouds, it was named "Wuyun Temple". At the end of the Ming Dynasty, the building was decayed and rebuilt in the second year of Emperor Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty. Sometimes the roof was covered with tin tiles. Whenever the clouds opened and sunrise, the silver glittered, known as the "silver roof" of Emei. After a few fires, several rebuildings were carried out. The existing building underwent major repairs in 1953. After 1989, the Buddhist monks were repaired several times, the Buddha statues were remodeled, and the gate and the main hall were restored.
