I hiked the O'Leary Peak Trail. Fantastic hike up a volcano. You're going uphill for 5 miles, but it's not especially steep. The trail is a fire road all the way to the observation tower. I hiked i...
The variations in landscapes in Arizona is striking and the landscape at Sunset Crater is unique. As you drive in, you see all the lava flows. It looks like lava flows I’ve seen in Hawaii. It’s amazin...
We drove past the sign several times planning on stopping just didnt have the time til now. We were surprised for sure to see the cone of a huge volcano right here in Flagstaff. There are several tra...
This is worth seeing, it does not take much time. Basically a big hole in the ground, we wanted to take the hike around it, but because of the wind that day, hikes were not allowed. Seeing it once i...
It was very cool with several hiking opportunities. The visitor center was closed due to COVID but we were given a map and it was easy to follow. We hiked a few of the shorter hikes as it was very col...

The loop road US89 provides access to both craters and sunset (south section) and Wupatki ruins (north section) which can be easily reached from flagstaff or the Grand Canyon. The scenery seen from the room changes dramatically. The sunset crater is very large and many other smaller volcanic cones are also visible nearby. There it is easy to pass the rugged lava along both sides of the trail. It is quite surprising that the lava in the middle and the other imagined block of volcanic crater and sunset cone from which it collapsed 1,000 years ago! This is not a lava flowing as an explosion of lava. There is a more challenging vertical track with a conical standard room, and great views. The visitor center has a wooden building which is a pretty interesting exhibit and forest. The descriptive signs are also great. A fee ($20.00 per car) covers both places. Plan to spend a day visiting these two places, especially if you do some walking trails. The drive loops from one end to the other absolutely beautiful: the ever-changing scenery is also unforgettable.
Here you can imagine the heat of the volcanic eruption, forming such a spectacular natural landscape
The view is very nice, and it's free! Traffic is also very convenient
The first volcano I had close contact with, the sunset crater Flagstaff trip. We went to a particularly unforgettable attraction, that is, the famous sunset crater, which is the youngest volcano in the region. It erupted before, and now the sunset crater has basically no vegetation and is particularly desolate. The experience of the sunset crater is particularly different. The magnificent natural landscape is the biggest attraction here, and the scenery of the crater is also amazing. The beautiful scenery of the crater Walking on the way to the sunset crater, the first feeling is the desolation here. Although there are some fragmentary vegetation around, they are all very short. We are not alone on the way to the crater. The desolate scenery is very textured in the lens. We all like the photos taken here. At sunset, the best view of the sunset crater is at sunset. It is best to take a DSLR to take pictures of the sunset crater. The setting sun renders the sunset crater into a magnificent landscape, like an indispensable oil painting. There are some bright red sunset craters that are more beautiful at sunset, a bit of the smell of flame mountain. PS: open all day
