About Gannan: Gannan is both a holy place for Tibetan Buddhism and a paradise for backpackers. Gannan is not an abbreviation meaning Southern Gansu, but rather an administrative district—the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture—located in the southwestern part of Gansu Province. Compared with Lijiang, Fenghuang, and even Lhasa, Gannan is a place that truly showcases the real, authentic Tibetan vibrancy, as well as an area better suited to experience the Tibetan people's enthusiastic singing and hospitality. Gannan was also an important part of both the Silk Road and the Tangfan Trail.
