Goreme is the core town of Cappadocia and the base for this area. This is where you can take a romantic "Turkish hot air balloon". The peculiar landscape of Cappadocia was formed by volcanic eruptions millions of years ago. The volcanic erupted magma cools and then solidifies into a weatherable rock formation with plasticity, while the harder basaltic volcanic rock then covers the soft weathered rock formation. When time passes, the weathered rock formation is washed away, and the upper hard basaltic volcanic rock is still standing upright, and the mushroom head landscape appears. I stood by the canyon and watched the hot air balloon drifting around, feeling like it was in a huge dream.
